The barn is available for yoga and meditation retreats.
From 01 February 2018 Monalea is closed for renovations. Re-opening 01 Sept 2018.
The barn is a sweeping vernacular stone building with six bedrooms, two en suite and two further bathrooms, they can all be adapted as singles or doubles. Three of the bedrooms are in a slate floored extension attached to the barn building.
The main barn space with its vaulted roof and wood floor is similar to the way it would have been in its cattle days but with a large open fireplace in the middle of the room. There is space for about 30 people on yoga mats and two big round tables that can seat 24 people. The stone walls make it very atmospheric at night when you can light candles in the many little alcoves.
The farmhouse dates from 1770 with a big range kitchen. The house has been sympathetically restored with red painted woodwork and a cosy sitting room. It sleeps four in two bedrooms with a bathroom, and is 20 steps from the barn. Useful for those who want an escape from the action in the main building, elder lemons in family groups have stayed here or the yoga teacher on retreats.
The house is set on 8 acres. Six acres are planted in indigenous oak forest. There is a walk at the end of the driveway up Croghan Hill, along the Wexford/Wicklow border.
